The Chronometre Geophysic was created in 1958 during the official International Geophysical Year, an international scientific project that lasted from July 1, 1957, to December 31, 1958. It also marked the end of a long period during the Cold War when scientific interchange between the East and West had been seriously interrupted
Where the first “R” in CHRONOMETER, is not fully formed, a good indicator that the dial hasn’t been repainted
The movement is signed “Lecoultre” in honor of the company founder “Antoine Lecoultre” in 1833
Caliber P478/BWSBr is the natural evolution of cal.488SBR found in the JLC Mark II British Commonwealth navigator’s watch

This Reference E 168 remains one of the most coveted chronometer timepieces for discerning collectors
The iron anti magnetic inner case, that is supposed to be inside the watch as a double case back, is missing on this watch
The watch comes with a brand new original JLC croco leather strap with a no name steel buckle
